At Exception, our staff are the lifeblood of the organisation. Since our inception there has always been a conscious effort to support our staff in their charitable endeavours and promote fundraising for a variety of popular charities.

This year we are pleased to announce Exception has pledged to support BBC’s Children in Need.  But that’s not all, we have also implemented a new policy to enable all staff to take an additional day of annual-leave to do charitable work in their local communities!

Whether, taking part in a charity race or helping at the local food bank – we want to support our staff in the things they enjoy doing and in-turn, make a difference to the surrounding community.

In 2018 alone we’ve supported several amateur sports teams as well as participating in numerous philanthropic events. We’ve also organised a plethora of charitable fundraising afternoons in the office and continue to support a talented local Edinburgh artist.

Local Sports & Clubs

Exception currently sponsors Hutchison Vale’s Under 15 girls football team as their main sponsor. In addition, we support Edinburgh-based rugby team Stewart’s Melville RFC as a shirt and stadium sponsor. Similarly, our Director of Operations is an active participant of Portobello Water Polo Club and we have supported them for 14 years.

A number of our colleagues contribute to their own clubs and organisations and we’ve been fortunate to support some of these endeavours. Two such events that have been sponsored for a few years include Linlithgow Rotary’s annual golf day and Glengarnock Ironworks Bowling club’s annual Exception Open Pairs competition.

Supporting staff and their chosen charities

A couple of notable fundraising efforts over the past year include 5km and 2.5km swims for Swimathon in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care & CRUK. Also, an enthusiastic team of participants slept outside last October as part of Byte Night – a national sleep-out to raise money for Action for Children.

At HQ, staff are invited round for a handful of tasty treats throughout the year including  Pancake Day and our annual Halloween and Christmas lunches – where the money has been donated to provide meals for the homeless at Christmas via Social Bite or to Penicuik North Kirk Foodbank along with a sizable donation of much needed food and household items.

Our CEO, Scott, is a Director of Young Scot, the national youth information and citizenship charity that provides young people, aged 11 – 26, with a mixture of information, ideas and incentives to help them become confident, informed and active citizens.

Arts

Exception is committed to supporting culture and creativity in Scotland. Up and coming Edinburgh-based artist Davy MacDonald has created a plethora of contemporary figurative art and abstract works. Staff had the pleasure of attending a private viewing of his work during a quarterly company update at the Exception sponsored exhibition.

We are excited to adopt BBC’s Children in Need as our 2019 official company charity and can’t wait to plan exciting fundraising events.
