29 July, 2024: Exception, the innovative Digital Transformation specialist, today launches the Exception Digital Readiness Check. This comprehensive tool, which builds on top of the recently announced Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) Digital Readiness Check, is designed to help public sector policymakers and technologists ensure that new and existing policy can be implemented effectively through modern digital delivery channels.

This online tool, available at no cost, aligns with the four principles of CDDO’s check. It enables greater validation and a more robust evaluation through follow-up questions. At the completion of the check, an immediate digital readiness score is calculated to provide an instant snapshot of digital readiness.

Additionally, a detailed custom report is prepared which identifies areas where the organisation excels and discusses critical areas that require attention. By offering detailed, realistic assessments to identify and drive substantial improvements, this no cost report highlights potential risks, opportunities and priority areas of focus, equipping the organisation with actionable insights to drive digital innovation and efficiency.

In its roadmap for digital and data (updated September 2023), the CDDO highlights that the public sector lags behind in digital capabilities compared to the private sector, often resulting in slower, less efficient services. The Exception Digital Readiness Check aims to accelerate public sector digital innovation and to do so in a way that sustainably improves the delivery of citizen services.

Alasdair Hendry, Managing Director of Exception, says: "This tool is a critical step towards a more efficient, innovative, and digitally ready public sector. By providing a detailed assessment and actionable insights, we empower these organisations to enhance their digital capabilities and achieve meaningful transformation. Digital innovation is such an important enabler of citizen delivery and we’re proud to play a part in helping this journey."

The Exception Digital Readiness Check is accessible via the Exception website, and provides an easy and efficient way for public sector organisations to begin their journey towards enhanced digital readiness. Visit exceptionuk.com/digital-readiness.

Notes to Editor

The four principles of the CDDO Digital Readiness check, which the Exception check aligns, are:

  • Ensure clear, simple and unambiguous rules
  • Assume digital delivery by default
  • Plan for interoperability, sharing and reuse of data
  • Use existing, common infrastructure
