The potential of AI is limitless.
Avoid a journey to the unknown.
AI offers limitless possibilities, but a wrong journey can lead to complexity, high costs, and missed opportunities. Its success depends on practical, use-case-driven applications.
This is where Exception’s Pragmatic AI approach comes in. It isn’t about adopting technology for technology’s sake; it’s about leveraging AI as a digital colleague to address highly-focused use cases. By focusing on seamless integration with existing investments in systems and infrastructure, targeted solutions that fit into an existing business environment are identified, helping teams to work smarter and achieve measurable outcomes without the cost, risks and complexity of traditional AI rollouts.

The SEAM of Pragmatic AI
At the core of Exception's Pragmatic AI approach lies SEAM: a framework designed to guide organisations through AI adoption in a way that is Simple, Enabling, Affordable, and Measurable.
SEAM focuses on seamless integration with existing processes, ensuring AI enhances productivity without unnecessary complexity or cost.
It means that whether it's simplifying your workflows or empowering your workforce, SEAM ensures that AI fits your specific needs—delivering immediate value and measurable results while maintaining human oversight and control.
It’s AI tailored to help, not AI to overwhelm.

Facing the future: facial recognition at Scottish Prisons
When the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) came to us to transform their existing prisoner records system, we demonstrated how best practice experimentation based on Pragmatic AI can improve delivery efficiency and reduce cost.
The AI performs facial recognition on SPS’s 8,000 inmates, saving workers hours per day while also making prisons more secure though improved efficiency of identification, and the better traceability of prisoners.
Facing the future: facial recognition at Scottish Prisons
Over the decades, prison services have transformed their facilities from punishment to progressive rehabilitation centres, focusing on reintegration and reducing reoffending through education, therapy, and support programmes.
So when the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) came to us to transform its existing prisoner records system, we demonstrated how best practice cloud architecture using serverless technology could be secure, scaleable and robust while also reducing costs. It resulted in the rapid delivery of a clean, intuitive user interface that could transform the user experience, making it easier for prison workers to do their job and allow them to be more efficient with their time
Crucially, as part of the solution, we also found and implemented AI tools to perform facial recognition on the service’s 8,000 inmates, saving workers time and also making prisons more secure though improved efficiency of identification, and the better traceability of prisoners.
